Southwest CKI Southwest District Andrew Lee Governor’s Project 2013-2014 Serving the Students of the Southwest In continuing with his Eagle Scout Project and combining it with Kiwanis’ motto of “Serving the Children of the World”, Andrew Lee’s Governor’s Project is aimed at elementary schools, “Serving the Students of the Southwest”. Many schools are receiving less funding, creating unmet needs. As members of the Kiwanis Family, it is our duty to do our best to fulfill those needs! CKI clubs should visit their local elementary school and identify a need by September. With permission from the principal and the benefitting department faculty, CKI clubs should fulfill that need. Example projects could include: a book drive, clothing drive, school supplies drive, reading program (Serina Pack’s Tomorrow Fund project), school repairs, gardening, planting trees, or donating scooter boards (Governor Lee’s Eagle Scout Project). The diversity of the schools will determine their needs, but these are some ideas that clubs could suggest. In addition, use this opportunity to connect with local Key Clubs and Kiwanis Clubs! Start a Terrific Kids or K-Kids together! If money is an issue, apply for grants such as the Disney Friends of Change, Youth Services America, or CKI Tomorrow Fund. CKI clubs should aim to complete at least one project for a school. However, the more the better! Please be sure to document the club projects through hours and photographs! They will be displayed at District Convention and your CKI clubs will be recognized for their great efforts! This is a wonderful way to give back to your communities. Contact your old elementary schools and visit past teachers! Let them know what you’ve done after elementary school, let them know about the impact you’ve had in your communities, and let them know how much they’ve influenced you to be the amazing individuals you are today, all while Serving the Students of the Southwest! Please do not hesitate to contact your Lieutenant Governors or Governor Lee ([email protected]) if you have any questions or concerns! Happy Serving!
