UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO

How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world. ~ Anne Frank
The new board at the University of New Mexico CKI is eager and excited to begin the new year! We started off the year with Service Week at UNM. During Service Week, we conducted many projects with several preferred charities. We sold syringes filled with blue Jell-O at our“ Shots for Shots” event to benefit the Eliminate Project. We also conducted a food drive to raise awareness for STUFH, and then we donated the items to local food banks. Our last service project on the UNM campus was giving out bagels with information about March of Dimes while raising donations for the New Mexico chapter. We ended service week by volunteering at a local“ Blues and Barbeque” event to benefit the art and after school programs at a local elementary school.
Throughout the week we asked our club members and the UNM community to answer the question:“ What does service mean to you?” Some of our memorable responses were“ Service means developing my abilities and the abilities of all people,”“ Spreading hope,” and“ Personal time investment in communal growth.” This project was just the beginning of the decided theme for the new UNM CKI year, Inspire Service. We aim to inspire the love of serving others into both the CKI club members and others in our community! During the future months we will strive to inspire excitement about service through a variety of projects that our members are interested in. In the coming year we will strive to imprint a lasting love for service that will stay with our members through their entire lives.
During the next CKI year we also aim to bring our club members closer together. We will host socials regularly to build fellowship among our members. Though service projects build community within the club, it is also important to hold events in a social setting where it is easy to relax and get to know each other! Fellowship is an important aspect of Circle K International, and so we plan to emphasize it through the coming year. These past few weeks have already been actionpacked and enjoyable, and we are positive that the rest of the year will follow in suit! We as a board are eager to inspire service, inspire fellowship and inspire change throughout the upcoming CKI year!
