SPRING 2020 A re you aged between 15-17 years? The Source Arts Centre is looking for young people who are interested in making writing a career to attend a Writer’s Hothouse, where we will help you develop your skills over two days in May through a series of free workshops. If you write fiction or non-fiction, or poetry, at home or online and think it’s good, send us in some of your work and we’ll take it from there. Places are strictly limited, so email your work to us (max. 1000 words) before Friday April 17th to: [email protected] T ipperary Libraries Tipperary Studies Lecture Series continues at the Centre throughout spring. On January 21st is '1919: Waiting for Revolution?’ where Dr. Des Marnane with the help of Cathal O'Donoghue, looks at 1919 through a selection of contemporary documents. On February 18th Dr. Brian Casey talks about ‘The Tipperary by-election of 1869’ and the election of Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa - the Fenian leader who was briefly an MP for the county. On March 24th Dr Kevin McCarthy speaks on 'Tom Kiely: Tipperary's and Ireland's greatest Champion' arguing that the Olympic gold medallist of 1904 from Carrick-On Suir was perhaps Ireland’s greatest athlete ever. Lectures start at 7.30pm. Admission to all lectures is free. For further information contact 0761066123 T he Women in Technical Theatre Roadshow aims to engage female pupils from secondary level schools throughout Ireland by presenting and facilitating workshops geared towards increasing awareness of technical theatre, stage management and the importance that these departments play in the professional creation of live performance. The sessions at Source will take place on Wednesday March 4th and the programme is designed and facilitated by professionals from the Lir Academy and The Abbey Theatre. The Arts Centre looks to identify and bring together and develop a group of professional and semi- professional actors who might be available to work in productions in the Tipperary area over the coming years. The ensemble sessions work through some scripted scenes in a supportive group setting.
