main themes are grief, mental health and the
weight of responsibility.
Paddy is performed by a brilliant actor,
Brendan Dunlea. I actually met Brendan
when he was performing a show at
Edinburgh Fringe Festival several years ago,
so when I was casting the role of Paddy I
knew Brendan was the perfect fit. He has lots
of experience in theatre as a performer and a
director so it’s excellent to have him on
board.
And what is your next project?
Source, then at Edinburgh Fringe and it got
chosen there for various other festivals
including San Francisco International Arts
Festival and I did a show in Philadelphia too
which was really fun.
What is ‘Paddy Goes to Petra’ about?
It’s about a middle aged farmer trying to find
happiness in the world again after the death
of his son. His wife brings him on exotic
travels in an attempt to spark joy into his life
but the ancient city of Petra is the first place

I am editing a couple of other plays right now
but I am making short films now also as I
want to move into screen writing so that’s my
next venture. I had a short film on TG4 and
RTÉ player earlier in the year but I am trying
to make more films to improve my craft. I
also hope to take time out and travel next
year as it provides great inspiration for
stories. Combining writing and travel is my
favourite thing to do.
