Missy Elliott’s Iconology receives 5 fist
bumps from The Soultown’s DJ Ice!
Anticipated & Amazing: Iconology

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The most memorable Missy
Elliott songs are from the 90s: Gossip Folks, The
Rain, Supa Dupa Fly and Get Your Freak On. In the
past month, she has released a new mini-album,
Iconology. Although the long-time fans of Missy
were both surprised and happy about the new re-
lease, there are still some raised eyebrows at why
only 5 tracks -- after waiting nearly a decade for the
next solo album.
Missy has not been completely out of the limelight,
her creativity can be found in Tierra Whack, Tyler,
the Creator, Azealia Banks, M.I.A., FKA twigs, and
J. Cole, among many others, while her illustrious
accomplishments includes the first woman rapper
inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, of only
three rappers total.
Iconology is as special as Missy Misdemeanor El-
liot, herself. These five tracks revived the Missy we
all know and love, as well as formerly introduced this
icon to those who were not yet born. Yet, Missy, born
Melissa Arnette Elliott was born July 1, 1971. She is
an American rapper, singer, songwriter and can be
seen with First Lady, Michelle Obama, and James
Corden -- the host of the Late, Late Show -- during
an episode of Carpool Karaoke. (https://youtu.be/

“This is a Missy Elliott exclusive can be heard
before the start of every track.” The tracks on the
album are:
1. Why Should I Love
2. Why Should I Love (acapella)
3. DripDemeanor (featuring Sum1)
4. Cool Off
5. Throw It Back
Why Should I Love has a soulful and catchy har-
mony. The lyrics are on point. It has a refreshing
throwback feel to it, much like the 90s R&B tracks.
The stylish, relaxing flavor is a much-needed track
to add it to any playlist. The acapella version shows
off Missy’s voice and attitude. She is going to be “all
right”.
DripDemeanor has an Erykah Badu feel and flow.
It highlights Missy’s lyrical and rap skills. It caters to
the younger generation and resembles a melody of
a one-hit-wonder, but we know Missy, there aren’t
any one-hit-wonders in her repertoire, just hit after
hit after hit. However, we expect greatness from
Missy.
