2024 Annual Report
Pilot Mechanics Training in Burkina Faso
Community maintenance training has always been a part of our water program, but long-term functionality often depends on a trained mechanic with the right tools. In 2024, we launched our first Mechanics Training pilot in Burkina Faso, empowering 12 individuals from 6 Sonder partner communities with the skills and equipment to maintain their own wells— and offer repair services to others. The result: Reliable access to clean water strengthened for 1,800 people in Sonder communities, with ripple effects for many more.
The 12 mechanics trained by The Sonder Project hold their certificates celebrating their successful completion of the training.
It Takes a Community – It Could Be Yours!
At the end of 2023, we were approached by a unique group of supporters— followers of Malidoma and Sobonfu Somé, two revered Burkinabé spiritual teachers— who wanted to give back to Burkina Faso by funding clean water access. What began as a single well donation blossomed into a growing movement. By the end of 2024, two wells had been drilled and a third was fully funded for 2025. This story is a powerful reminder that anyone can make a difference— whether you’ re an individual, a community, or a group of inspired friends. Want to start your own fundraising effort? Email info @ thesonderproject. org and we’ ll help you get started in minutes.
With the help of our generous supporters, over the course of the year, we reached 4,930 people with clean water through the drilling of 11 new wells, the rehabilitation of one, and the completion of our second solar-powered water distribution system at a secondary school in Malawi.
