What’ s the best advice you ever had about how to be more creative?
I’ ve always appreciated the reminders that it’ s OK to have a slow period where you feel less-than-creative.
" GET OUT THERE AND DO IT! THAT SOUNDS SO DUMB, BUT SERIOUSLY."
What’ s your best advice to others about being more creative?
Get out there and do it! That sounds so dumb, but seriously. Take whatever idea you have in the back of your head and run with it. When I am in a rut, I give myself about a week of down-time to let things rattle around. Sometimes that is all it takes and I am good to go again, but sometimes I need more of a push. If that’ s the case, I will go ahead and pull out random supplies and just start using different materials to write or draw. Eventually, an idea gets sparked and a few times I have ended up finding new techniques that make for really awesome future projects!
What’ s your favorite thing you’ ve ever created?
A couple of years ago I partnered up with my boyfriend to create a music video for some friends of mine from home( Denver.) I hand-lettered the lyrics to the song and we figured out how we wanted to show them in the video. It was a cool project that I 100 % want to do again because, naturally, there are a million things I want to change about the now old video.
So, what’ s next for you?
I am heading into a super busy time, which is exciting. I have a couple of companies that I am working with to develop their brands a bit so they have a clear personality and focus. It’ s always fun to work with brands at the start to create everything from logos to the voice behind the brand. Also, the Philly area blogger conference, The Blog Connect, is getting ready to kick into planning gear. I am the Creative Director of the conference and have been brainstorming different ideas about how that should evolve in its second year!
