Upland planning a celebration of memories

A meeting was held to put together Upland ’ s Sesquicentennial Celebration Steering Committee on Tuesday evening of February 21 , at the Lions Club in Upland .
A good representation of town organizations was present , although there is still opportunity for more to be involved . However , as time is running short those present decided it was important to move forward on the theme of the event so that planning and communication could take place in a unified way .
It was suggested and agreed that an excellent theme and motto for the celebration would be “ All Aboard Upland ! Celebrating 150 Years .” The main celebration events will be centered around the Labor Day weekend .
The rest of the meeting was spent brainstorming a large number of possible events and activities centered around the history and legacy of Upland , and the families and businesses that have thrived here . These would be held in the week leading up to the Labour Day weekend , culminating in a Firework Display which will be put on by the Lions Club .
Some of the ideas included a carnival , an old movie shown on the side of a downtown building , a hog roast , historic demonstrations and tours , a 1920s fashion show , 1950s dancing contest , and

so on .
Part of the build up to the celebration will be collecting stories from people who have lived and worked in Upland about life in town from the last 150 years , whether it is your story , or a story of your family and friends past . Please submit any interesting material you would like to share , with or without photos to the email address upland150 @ gmail . com .
Every person or organization can have a role to play in celebrating our heritage . If you still do not know what your part is for our 150th celebration , please join in the next meeting on March 14 at 7pm at the Lions Club in Upland , or email Cindy Wright at rcwright2 @ att . net .
