In April I was very honored to have received the Phi Delta Chi Marco Villa Memorial Scholarship. This award is based on service and leadership; both qualities that Mr. Villa embodied and that I strive for in my professional life.
I like to think that I most influence others through my actions. I take pride in the science of pharmacy, always put forth my best effort, and I respect and listen to others. I hope that by putting my best self forward, it will bring out the best in others as well. Through these characteristics, I have been able to attain more formal leadership positions and have a greater impact in our college and on the practice of pharmacy.
I started to get involved at the College of Pharmacy by joining several organizations and doing my best to participate in any way possible – attending meetings, joining committees, or helping with projects. I soon found myself making connections with others and taking on larger roles in these organizations. In my third year, I took on several executive board positions including ICHP Professional Practice Chair, ACCP Student Liaison, and Vice President of Rho Chi. Through these positions I was able to grow as a leader as well as serve the college by planning events that would benefit my peers.
When I found out I had received the Phi Delta Chi scholarship this year I was especially thrilled. Being a member of Phi Delta Chi has given me a group of some of the best people to grow professionally with and to count on as close friends. This organization has really helped shape my life at the College of Pharmacy, and I could not imagine these past 3 years without my brothers by my side.
With that, I thank Phi Delta Chi for this honor and hope to carry these experiences with me and continue to serve and lead throughout my career in pharmacy.
