The Script 65 | Page 12

Hayride is always one of the most highly anticipated events of the year and this year was no exception. Bros and pledges headed to Forest View Farms in Tinley Park on a brisk October night, the ideal night for a hayride.

After the ceremonial porta-potty rush, everyone was ready to take pictures, to line up for the tractors and to make memories. Then, we were off – gathered up in trailers and ready get the cider scared out of us by the zombies, ghosts and headless horsemen that sidled up alongside us as we rode the trail. After successfully surviving the haunted death march, we were ready to unwind near the campfires with some s’mores and hotdogs. A special thanks to Brother Ray Traficante who joined us for the event, and generously assisted us with the after-ride food and drinks.

The P3 fraternity brothers including myself were very sad that this could possibly be our last hayride, but we could not have asked for a better night or better company for it. Much to the chagrin of White Sox sympathizer Mike Sotelo, one of the highlights of the night was watching the Cubs notch the first win of what would go on to be their World Series run on our cell phones just as we arrived back at the College of Pharmacy.

The Big (and Little) Reveal

Big/Little was an eventful and exciting evening where the Big and Little pairings were revealed. First, the pledges were divided into groups and rotated through 6 different houses, each of which had a unique theme. At each house, the Brothers asked quiz questions to test the pledges’

knowledge about Phi Delta Chi – including facts, history, and quiz information. The pledges all did an amazing job individually and together as a group. Time was also dedicated time to socialize and to sign pledge books. Meanwhile, each pledge had an assigned generic drug name, and the letters were revealed one by one as they rotated through each house. At the end of the night, the pledges matched their generic drug name to the corresponding brand name of their Bigs. We personally thought this was a cool way to incorporate pharmacy knowledge into a Phi Delta Chi event.

Overall, Big/Little gave pledges the chance to showcase their dedication and to experience just a taste of what it feels to be a part of this Brotherhood. This event also allowed us to get closer to one another as a whole chapter through opportunities for bonding, teamwork, and giving us an opportunity to embody our motto, AAAE. The night ended with strongly positive energy, after the Big/Little reveal and uniting with our family lines.
