New Candidates and Fundraising

The candidacy period for PDC was extremely involved and engaging. All the activities we took part in really helped solidify that I made the right choice by rushing for PDC. Every brother was always more than willing to help us out during the candidacy period whether it was from answering questions about any of the events to encouraging us to pushing through the rest of the semester. During my candidacy period, I was on the fundraising committee, and our committee had decided on doing a winter bake sale to raise money. Everyone on the committee worked extremely well together, and we were able to get a plethora of desserts to sell for our fundraiser. The fundraiser was a success with everyone buying our home-baked goods, having raised a good amount of money for the fraternity. This could not have been done without all the collaborative efforts of my newly initiated brothers.

Hustle Up the Handcock

Piercing the Chicago skyline at a staggering height of 1,500 feet, the John Hancock Center hosted many Alpha Sigma brothers of Phi Delta Chi in the annual Hustle Up the Hancock charity event. Representing the Repertory Health Association, this event drew in over a million dollars this year to support the local fight against lung disease. To some, the thought of ascending 1,632 steps is the work of nightmares. However, to our brave brothers, it is just another challenge to overcome, and another excuse to get competitive with each other. After the tough training, the trash talk, and trumping the treacherous tower, these champions got to overlook this great city, and could more deeply feel connected to the true purpose of the event. They upped the ante. Donating money and sending emails can bring a lot of good, but such an easy feat rarely inspires more virtue. Putting your body on the line, taking on a lofty charity challenge, now those are truly worthy tasks that honor the values of Phi Delta Chi.
