Carpal Tunnel Syndrome The notorious Carpal tunnel syndrome ( inflammation of the median nerve ) is a disease that occurs with frequent and very long monotonous flexion and extension of the hand , accompanied by muscle tension . This disease most often affects drummers , as well as guitarists who constantly use an alternating stroke - it is very important to note that both of them use generally incorrect technique , tensing their muscles . The basis of correct and fast play isn ’ t tension , it ’ s muscle relaxation .
Prevention To achieve maximum relaxation of the hand when playing , especially with frequent monotonous flexionextension movements . If mild pain occurs , give your hand a rest . If the pain is accompanied by tingling in the nerve endings and a feeling of numbness , take a musical “ vacation ” for 1-2 weeks . If the pain doesn ’ t subside , visit your physiotherapist .
