Raman Sharma wrote his first song in middle school at the age of fourteen inspired by his crush . Things only went uphill for him there on . Raman as a kid , always invested his time in extra-curricular activities , mainly music and sports . Since childhood , his friends and family always encouraged him to sing at gatherings .
Until his mid-teens he treated music as a hobby . He moved from one teacher to another for learning classical singing . At the same time his interest drew him to western music such as pop , R & B , hip-hop music . Having these musical influences were not the end of his interests . Raman reveals some other groups of music that he absolutely enjoys . He says “ I love old Bollywood songs , and I love the Bollywood songs of the 2010s era . I remember my dad driving me around in the car with this music playing , and I had fun listening to it .”
Talking about his progress , Raman emphasised on the importance of social media in his music career . Raman smiled and said “ When puberty hit , this crush on mine inspired me to write a song . This was in the early days and I didn ’ t take music much seriously . But since I was dedicated to getting better in art , the quality of my content turned out to be good by default . My songs and covers started blowing up on social media . This pushed me to take music as a serious path .”
Another event that had a radical impact on Raman ’ s musical career was the lockdown . He spent his time learning music production and sound design . This gave him more control over his music and gave him tools to add elements to his music that he did not have earlier . He gives credit to DAWs for having an impact on the independent music industry . During the conversation , Raman expressed his thoughts on the changing face of independent music artists . “ Earlier music producers didn ’ t get as much recognition as the playback singers , or actors . However , now applications are in place to support young talented artists to produce their music or collaborate with producers easily . I would like my software to be like a blank canvas before starting the production , and with the advancement of technology this is becoming possible .”
Raman believes that this change is taking Indian artists on a global level . Accessibility to musical tools and social media offers a lot of organic marketing opportunities to upcoming talents .
Talking about his writing process , Sharma confesses that writing often beams a light to the side of your persona that you had no idea about . Creating a song is a very indulgent experience . “ When you are writing music , you are humming whatever lyrics you want to assign to a melody which is constantly playing in your head . And you have to figure out melodies and lyrics all at the same time . Sometimes you end up blurting out stuff that is in your subconscious and the stuff that you don ’ t tell anybody else . You realise ‘ Oh I actually feel that way .’ I Basically write my music about me , the people I love and the experiences I have . They are taken either from my reality , or I make them up .”
‘ Jadui Pari ’, his latest single was conceived from a dream he had . Raman elaborates “ It was a dream I had about this very toxic relationship dynamics . It was very vague . It was basically about a relationship that was doomed but the partners both liked each other a lot and don ’ t want to get over the relationship . The song is like playing with fire , and with fun at the same time . ‘ Jadui Pari ’ is a kind of a song with sad lyrics but also ‘ Jo bhi ho jaaye , I still want to be with you ’ kinda lyrics on a fun beat .”
Sharma , who writes in both , Hindi and English , says that each language has its own feel . He finds Hindi to be more intimate and English to be the language that he often thinks in . “ At my home , we speak a little bit of Hindi and English mix so my lyrics are basically how I think and how I normally interact , it is basically how I am .”
In 2021 , Raman was diagnosed with appendicitis . This halted his progress in sports . Shifting his entire focus to music he up-ed his skill sets and began writing more music . This led him to have a lot of songs ready in his bank , though there is sincere concern holding him back from revealing all the songs at this point in his life . There is a certain pressure on him in terms of what he and his music is to become in the future .
He has written some serious and sad songs , but he is hesitant for two reasons . One of them is that he is feeling a certain limitation in terms of the time he has left to make fun songs and experiment with his sound . He elaborates on the second reason by saying “ People don ’ t want to hear very serious songs from very young artists because they would not think it ’ s authentic . A lot of people think that children don ’ t go through a lot . But in reality , it ’ s a struggle . Being a teenager is a transition between what you thought you were and what you could be , and that transition can become a baggage . I ’ m leaving the heavy songs for later . I ’ m singing about love and having fun with my music , that is what I want to do right now .”
He further points out a drawback that many young artists might
