Talk to us about the production process of this EP – what ’ s different from before ?
Sharad : First , Sanyanth creates the basic structure with the melody and lyrics . Once that is done , the whole band sits together and structures the song in a rehearsal studio . We then play it live and make the necessary tweaks based on what works and what doesn ’ t .
In terms of recording process , first we create a demo track so that we can get an idea what elements we want . Then we record the rhythm section ( drum , bass , acoustic guitar ) and then the harmonic instruments ( violin , electric guitar , keys and flute ) and finally the vocals .
This EP leans towards modern soul and funk , which is different from usual . How did you derive at these sounds ?
Abraham : We looked deeper into the band itself and started taking advantage of the skill sets and musical tastes of our band members . This helped us experiment with new ways to make music .
Talk about the collaborations on this EP – has this made you keener to feature more guests on your next album or EP ?
Sharad : In the past year or so we ’ ve been eager to do more collaborations with different artists , international and national . We ’ ve been sharing new music with artists we think would be a great fit for some of our tunes . For ‘ Mayflower ’, we needed a very specific vocal texture . We felt that Nikhil ’ s voice would suit the song and could bring out the sentiment of the song . We love the way it has come out and I hope we get to collaborate with many more amazing artists from around the world .
What inspired you to make this EP ?
Abraham : The pandemic was definitely a catalyst . All of us were in different parts of the country , stuck at home and we couldn ’ t do what we loved to do for a long time . But this time helped us reflect on ourselves and our surroundings , which gave the spark for the album .
If there is something you could ’ ve done better with this EP , what would it be and why ?
Sanyanth : Marketing . We were in the middle of our nationwide tour when the EP came out . Since we ’ re an independent band , it was extremely difficult for us to coordinate and execute strong marketing initiatives that could have helped push the music out to a wider audience .
Are you working on any new music or new projects , as a band or individually ?
Abraham : We are always creating new music . We have a lot of unreleased material that we ’ re working on , so keep your ears peeled for new music from us
Craziest fan moment :
Not sure craziest would be right word him , but he is one our sweetest fans . He doesn ’ t miss a single Easy Wanderlings show in Bangalore and makes sure he gets a picture with all the band members . Also , he will order a Long Island Ice Tea just before we perform our track ‘ Dream to keep us going ’.
Strange / embarrassing stage accident during a gig
This happened a long , long time ago , during our first ever Hard Rock Café in Bangalore . We were sounding pretty bad and during one of our really slow and sad songs , out of the blue people burst into a thunderous applause . We were confused , but felt good for two seconds and gave each other a cool grin ... only to realise there was an India Australia cricket match playing on huge TV .
