Besides , there have been some great compositions that have come out of Bollywood . We love Bollywood music , and even when we play the covers , those compositions are our rendition of the existing songs . If you hear our version of ‘ Saathiya ’ you ’ ll know that it starts with a funk and blues intro .
Bhumit : Our setlist changes according to the venue and type of show . And when you are new at a scene , playing a Bollywood song will instantly give us the attention we need . And once they are engaged , we will drop our original there .
When we get to a level where people will come just to listen to our originals , we might still play Bollywood music on some occasions based on fan requests or their mood . We will also play Bollywood our of the respect for the existing artists and their music .
What are the biggest challenges your face in the Indie music industry ?
Bhumit : There is a challenge at every step toward the success of a musician . Subodh writes the lyrics for our songs and the frequency is dynamic based on what and how the inspiration strikes .
The next challenge comes in the production process . We are not signed with a label , and to get good audio output costs a lot of money . None of us take any money from our family even though we can . We save the money that we have earned from playing at shows and we put that into creating new music . We never compromise on quality , but since we don ’ t have a label-funded financial backing , it just makes our process a bit slow . For example , we have only released 5 tracks in the last 5 years , but we try to take our production level higher with each release .
Subodh : Bhumit and I learnt audio engineering to make our sound better . We recorded our upcoming single in Jam8 studio to give the best quality experience to our listeners .
We were lucky that our previous two singles received wide recognition with very limited promotion . Spotify had reached out to us which made our song reach millions . To keep that momentum up , we knew we needed a stronger promotional method . For this , we started dropping emails to various organisations till we landed a deal with a music label . Our next challenge is maintaining discipline and waiting for the right moment to release our songs . This experience has motivated us to become more systematic . Now , we have a strategy , a marketing team , and a new approach . We are waiting to see where this will take us .
When you play live shows , and some people don ’ t relate to it , do you feel de-motivated ?
Bhumit : Initially when we had just started playing live music , we used to feel a little bad if some people were not vibing . But I remember we had once opened for Euphoria at a huge venue . Real big production . This was in Goa , and sadly it rained heavily that day . Of course , for a big show like that everyone was expecting a huge turnover , but the rains affected that . We as a band are a huge fan of Euphoria , so we did our thing , and our performance was fine . After us , Euphoria went on stage . Euphoria is a big name , a great band . Because of the rain , there were only about 40 people in the audience in a massive venue . Yet their attitude towards the situation was super positive . They said “ No problem , you all are thirty people , we are five , let us all enjoy together ” and they went on with full power . They enjoyed their music , and that energy was transferred to the people in the audience and we had a blast together .
