Tell us about your latest EP Love Languages . What inspired the idea for it ? Why call it Love Languages ?
Love Languages , is a multilingual compilation of six songs that revolve around some form of love - be it self -love , romantic love or familial / friendly love . It comprises songs in 4 different languages – English , Hindi , Punjabi and Bengali .
The idea for it was born while practicing Indian classical music on an electronic synth sequence . The result of the contrasting sounds was a win and formed the first song of the EP , ‘ Malx ’. Before I knew it I had 6 songs formed with a similar approach added with some amazing singers from the country .
2 . What ’ s your songwriting process like ?
I don ’ t think I have a set way of song-writing . Usually my focus is to make flowing melodies that lead into one another . Once the music is satisfactory then I proceed to the voice and lyrics .
3 . In a country where there is no dearth for talent and indie artists , how do you stay ahead of the curve and ensure you are up to date with trends ? Or do you not care for such things ?
Thank you , I don ’ t think I am ahead of the curve by any means . But it seems , being a good musician is not enough to be successful these days . One has to strategize and be business-minded to market the music as well .
4 . How does this EP showcase your growth and evolution as an artist compared to your previous work ?
This EP is a lot more experimental than my previous work . It has also allowed me to showcase and solidify my sound . Technically , it has made me realise the importance of minimalism when it comes to composing .
5 . What was your vision for the overall production and sound quality of this EP , and how did you achieve that ?
Due to its experimental nature I tried a lot of new sounds in this EP to make sure it is different than anything I ’ ve released before .
I had a lot of help for the overall production . For the sound quality I ’ m extremely grateful the mixing / mastering engineer who helped me shape the EP into what it is now .
6 . How do you use digital platforms to reach wider audiences ?
I try to stay consistent on social media and post regularly about the EP .
7 . What else do you have coming up in 2023 ? A few singles and another EP .
