SNEHA RAMESH
Rainforest World Music Festival 2019
A musical extravaganza
The three day music festival kicked
off on 12th July this year at the
Sarawak Cultural Village and this
year, yet again, surprised everyone
with a great line up and experience. ‘Theatre Stage’, ‘Jungle Stage’,
‘Tree Stage’ and ‘Rainforest Music
House’, to provide platforms for
the performers and artistes to
interact with the festival-goers.
On all the three days, festival goers
were treated to great music, workshops,
sessions, learnings and much more.
The festival saw performers coming
all the way from Ireland, Russia,
Madagascar, Chile, Canary Islands,
Morocco, Scotland and Vietnam. For this year, the concept of
‘Responsible Tourism’ was incorporated
into the RWMF – 20 water dispensing
machines have been stationed
throughout the festive ground to reduce
the usage of plastic water bottles.
The main acts were spread across
different stages, ‘Ingenious Stage’,

One thing that took us by surprise was
the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture,
Youth and Sports Sarawak, Datuk
Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah’s follow
up comment on having implemented
better internet for festival goers at
the festival field. This was a concern
raised by one of the journalists last year
and had been addressed this year.
There were some key takeaways
from this year’s festival, and we
had the opportunity to hear them
out first hand from the organisers,
Kevin & Gustino who have been
with the festival for over 20 years.
