Set up defenses for wherever you'll be staying at. One thing Minecraft taught me is that zombies can break doors. With this in mind, why not start reinforcing your building? One good idea would be to make a large wall around wherever you're staying at, but that takes time. You can begin with makeshift stakes and other defenses of the kind to protect your building. Maybe even an alarm to tell you if and when zombies approach your building (just not too loud, you don't want to attract more). On another note, some experts recommend knocking down your first set of stairs (if on a 2-story building) so that zombies can't walk up (you would stay on the floor that the stairs would lead to). No matter what you set up, make sure you can fix or replace it as time goes on and that it's reliable.
Ah yes, weapons. Usually seen as the fun part of a zombie apocalypse, you'll need gear to fight the hordes of zombies coming at ya'. First thing first: guns are to be used in emergencies. If you play zombie games or watch zombie shows like AMC's The Walking Dead, you probably already know why: the amount of sound they emit can attract a bigger horde of zombies to come at you; making it harder on you than it was on the first place. The definition of "emergency" is up to you. When it comes to picking weapons, you may not have much at your disposal, or you may have more than you think. Weapons don't have to be bought with the intent of harming something else, so you most likely have things to use around your house — a bat, racket, knife, woodwork, etc. You could use many things, as long as they're better than your hand. Everything you use has its strengths and weaknesses, so you have to learn to master what you use. You may swing slower with a bat than with a knife, but it has more reach and a more extensive "impact range" (its damage would be spread out through a larger area than it would with a knife's precision). Every weapon is beneficial in different situations, so get to know when and how to use them. But… if you don't have much to use, anything goes.
One important thing: who you're taking. This is one of the harder choices, but it's an important one. It may be harder to take feed a larger group, but it can also come with more safety. Many pros and cons come with these things, so you'll have to decide what you can handle. This one is more personal so that I won't get into it.
Well, that's the basics. You'll need to learn, adapt, and survive, but it doesn't hurt to have a guide.
P.S.: This guide should not be solely used if learning how to survive a zombie apocalypse.
