Meet Lacrosse Scotland: Oliver Barsby

Role: Chair

Summary of what the role involves: Operationally the Chair is the line manager of any senior staff employed by the Lacrosse Scotland. Even more importantly it is the Chair’s responsibility to ensure the Board and Company as a whole are operating effectively, to the best of its potential and makes decisions that are in the best interest of the Company and its members.

Other involvement in sport: I currently work for the governing body for Target Shooting in Scotland as the National Development Manager but I also sit on the Board of Scottish Gymnastics as a General Director. My playing involvement goes back as long as I can remember, throwing myself into any sport on offer from a young age, never excelling in any one sport but enjoying them all.

Fun Fact/Claim to fame: I was fortunate enough to be selected to be both a Frontrunner (pre-Games) and Clyde-sider (games time) at the Commonwealth Games, volunteering at the SECC and Hydro during the Games. During this time I was fortunate enough to see the Earl of Wessex, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as well as sporting stars such as boxing greats Alex Arthur and Amir Khan.

Summary about yourself: I grew up in Buckinghamshire in England and moved to Edinburgh in 2000 to attend the University of Edinburgh to study history. I graduated in 2004 but had been elected to the sabbatical post of Sports Union President earlier that year, this beginning my professional career in sport. I have lived in Edinburgh almost entirely since then, moving to Helensburgh for a few years before eventually being drawn back to the East coast once again.
