The 21st September saw the 2nd annual Robert Hetherington Memorial Tournament. Stirling University provided a scenic setting and with the weather on our side it turned out to be a great day of lacrosse.

Edinburgh City Ken Galluccio Cup Report:
Edinburgh put up a valiant effort from a mixed squad, calling on Edinburgh players old and new to make up numbers and fill the gaps in the lineup.
The first day saw Edinburgh take on the Czech and Finnish representatives in the group stages. Unfortunately Edinburgh were unable to match the higher standard of play and were relegated to the lower bracket which consisted of the French, Belgian, and Irish champions. They managed to improve their game and beat the Belgians and French but lost to the Irish in a close early morning battle. Edinburgh finished tenth overall.
The tournament was seen as a success from a development standpoint allowing all who attended grow their lacrosse skills both on individual abilities and in team play. [Report by Joshua Schuwer]
Edinburgh Capital Ken Galluccio Cup Report:
Disappointingly, one of the three teams in our pool, Lady Latvia, withdrew a week before the tournament meaning Capital would have to play Milano Baggataway twice in the group stage on day one. Unperturbed, the team sallied forth and notched up two convincing wins; the first a 19-1 victory featuring some well crafted goals and the
second, an 11-0 win with most of the team playing out of position.
The last match of day one, the quarter final, saw Capital take on the Domstad Devils from the Netherlands in a tight and tense match, and the team’s first real test of the tournament. Capital eventually edged the match 8-4, through a combination of gritty defence, fluid midfield transition and driving attack.
Up first in our semi-final were tournament favourites and previous champions on numerous occasions boasted several England internationals. Capital produced our best lacrosse of the tournament, collectively playing out of our skins. Although Capital finally succumbed to defeat with an incredibly respectable score of 11-4, spirits were high and the team were full of hope for the 3rd place playoff.
Unfortunately, immediately after the final whistle blew against Oxton, the tournament organisers announced that Capital had a thirty minute turnaround before our playoff with zero time to recharge our exhausted batteries. Our opposition, a team from Hanover, were tough, efficient and hungry as hell. Disappointedly, we ended up capitulating 15-4 and the bellowing honk of a celebratory air horn will make all Capital players shudder forever more!
Despite both losses on day two, the weekend was a fantastic opportunity to play high level lacrosse against some of the best club teams in Europe, as well as a brilliant bonding experience for the Capital which gives added incentive to retain our league title.
