The Scoop April 2016 | Page 16

The month of April rolls in as a joke on the first day of the month, then they

go ahead and tell us that it’s the month of financial literacy. Nowadays,

college has become the punchline to financial literacy. Financial aid

is a pretty common thing when it comes to college, and students

are always scrambling to get the most out of the government.

Those funds usually go to their tuition and thousand dollar

textbooks. This is why the internet almost blew up when

Brandon Lerry posted about spending his $2500 of financial

aid on an exotic trip to Thailand with his girlfriend. Although

little did people know that it was twenty-five hundred dollars of

leftovers. In a Facebook post, Lerry expresses that “As a film

student you luckily don't need many textbooks.” Seems to me

that, as long as you can name the importance of your big purchase,

you can spend it however you like.
