2 Saltus Stage

Foreword - Director of Performing Arts, Mrs. Lisa Maule

Our termly online magazine, Saltus Stage, has now been updated and all issues of the magazine can now be viewed on tablets, iPads and mobile devices.

This year we have welcomed two new teachers to the Instrumental team: Mr. Zhang (piano) and Ms. Arthur (piano and voice). Lessons have proved highly popular, and, in addition to the waiting list for piano lessons, there is now increasing demand for vocal tuition.

This term saw the launch of the Performing Arts Website, maintained by Ms. McDonald, giving detailed insight into the wide range of activities and events that take place within the Performing Arts department. Ms. Jones, Head of Music, recently introduced the department to the world of social media via Twitter (@SaltusStage), Vine, Instagram and YouTube, sharing the excellent extra-curricular and classroom work happening across the Department, featuring students from Foundation up to SGY.

Due to the storms, Saltus’ production of The Tempest could not have been produced at a more fitting time. The performance was lauded by the Bermuda Shakespeare Committee and was a testament to the dedication of cast and crew as well as the hard work of Ms. Kelly, triumphing in the face of adversity.

The Performing Arts trip to Stratford, Ontario in September provided students with the opportunity for coursework evaluation while furthering their knowledge of theatre. Organized by Mrs. Maule, it was a highly educational and inspirational experience for all.

Mrs. Fox has been extremely busy with both Upper Primary and Lower Primary productions this Christmas but as usual the excellent performances were able to show the calibre of our students and delight audience members.

Curriculum lessons from foundation through to SGY educate our students in all areas of music, supported by the many theory lessons provided by the department, all overseen by Ms. Jones.

As a Department we continue to be exceptionally proud of the fine results that our students achieve. To be such accomplished musicians at this age requires self-discipline, determination and sacrifice. Parental support is also a huge contributing factor for which we are very grateful!

So, in the spirit of the Season, join us in celebrating the accomplishments of the future generation as we wish you all a wonderful Christmas!
