What has now become an annual event on the Musical Calendar, the Wind Band were invited to play for World Asthma Day by the Open Airways organization of Bermuda. Performing many popular themes in the bright sunshine in front of City Hall steps, students from both Secondary and Upper Primary departments had the audience dancing and singing along and was much appreciated by a large lunchtime crowd.

SGY Graduation

The Senior Orchestra performed one of Gershwin’s well-known themes from Rhapsody in Blue, followed by a rock version of Pink Panther. Whilst the audience were then treated to themes from the popular film Frozen by the Concert Band, before bringing in the SGY Graduates to the familiar theme from Pomp and Circumstance by Elgar. Calum Maule announced the Trustees and Faculty by playing The Prince of Denmark’s March accompanied by Bruce Fox on the organ. Led by Alex ‘Foxy’ Fox, complete with shades, the Jazz Band got everyone’s toes tapping with their exciting performance of Adelieland from Happy Feet.

It was a programme that covered many musical genres and exposed students to a variety of experiences!

Founder’s Day

An auspicious opening fanfare from Also Sprach Zarathustra was the dynamic start to Founder’s Day this year! Arranged by Lorna McDonald, the Jazz Band with added percussion raised the roof of St. John’s which was commended by the new Reverend of St. John’s Church, Canon Ken Leonczyk, Jr.

The Jazz Band’s rendition of Locked out of Heaven by Bruno Mars was appreciated by their peers and Calum Maule’s moving rendition of The Last Post at the tomb of Samuel Saltus brought the service to a fitting end.

Christchurch 'Summer Fete'

The year 3&4 Choir performed at a 'Summer Fete' for Christ Church held at the Manse on Saturday, May 31. Despite having to move the keyboard under a tent due to a rain shower, the weather cleared up and students were able to perform. The weekend was very busy so only 10 students were able to attend, but with the help of some microphones the students did a fantastic job. They seemed to also enjoy playing games once they were finished. Alex Fox also played the violin.
