Secondary Drama
The S7’s have been exploring the topic of Natural Disasters in drama and the S8’s have been busy Adapting Dale Butler’s Tall Tales for the stage. The best work from both year groups was shown in this termss Performing Arts assembly, while S9’s have been learning all about technical theatre.
GCSE students ended the year on a real high by performing their Unit 3 devised pieces for a packed audience! This year, practical exams were assessed by a visiting examiner from the UK. Each group researched and devised an original piece of theatre exploring theme ‘contrasts’. They covered a range of issue and interesting historical topics- from the media’s impact on self- image, to the shocking story of 19th century journalist Nellie Bly. This just goes to prove that Drama can be used to learn about pretty much any topic you can think of! The Year 11’s did a fantastic job and we wish them every success in the future.
AS Drama & Theatre Studies.
Our AS students treated us to a magical performance of three Grimm Tales as part of their final Unit 2 performance exams. Students were able to apply the characterization skills they had learned studying Commedia del A’rte and Jacques Lecoq in their performance. Using nothing but two ladders, three umbrellas and the unforgettable Rumpelstiltskin puppet, the company took the audience on a journey through some of Grimm’s best loved cautionary tales. The group also performed a monologue each from a variety of classic plays in including Antigone and An Ideal Husband.
