The Roshua Review April 2015 | Page 15

Future has mad talent, and it shows on projects like Astronaut Status, Honest, and Monster. This however is one of those tapes that provokes mixed opinions. The tape is a nod to his DJ, DJ Esco, who recently served 56 nights in a Dubai prison, but the tape barely mentions anything about his DJ’s experience. With only 10 tracks (2 of them actually being skits), there is little wiggle room for Future. For the first half of the project he abuses old flows and monotone delivery, and those songs hinder the project from being truly good. The second half of the project is where the gems are. The tape shows progression, and that is the tape’s saving grace.

ILoveMakonnen may be the super chef we idolized on “Look at my Wrist,” but Dedication 4 > Drink More Water 5. If you care to argue my opinion on this mixtape, be my guest and enjoy listening to the 43 minute offering. After that (assuming you made it through), feel free to contact me at [email protected] regarding your argument (assuming you actually have one), and I will respond ASAP. In the end, this project does not reflect ILoveMakonnen’s talent for making weird (but good) music. Maybe next time Makonnen.
