recent container to the gambia
Thanks to Dundonald Parish
Church and the Urc and St
Columbus along with local support
we were able to send many books
clothing and tools to the Babylon Basic Cycle
school in Lamin, in the Gambia. We met with
local tribal elders of the town and a ceremony
was held where bye certificates of gratitude
were given to us for the great support from
the community and also to East Ayrshire
Council for the equipment from schools. The
school has asked if we could support them
with computers or laptops broken or working
as their government can shut them down if
they fail to have an IT department. The good
news is that now children not only have a great
library but can even borrow books and we
also saw them performing a play from an East
Ayrshire school book. Also demand for entry
to the school of 1200 pupils has now doubled
so we thank everyone for their support.
Anyone wishing to donate a used computer
can pop into our charity 47 Lainshaw Avenue
Shortlees KA1 4RY. Mon, Thur & Fri 10am -
2pm. Thanks again Gordon Neil.
Fenwick Early Childhood Centre
The Fenwick Early Childhood Centre
(ECC) was held within the John Fulton
Hall in Fenwick, but has now moved to be
incorporated within the Primary School
building itself. This happened with effect
from Thursday 13th February. This is a great
move for both the ECC and the school.
For the ECC themselves, they now have a
designated room within the school, meaning
they can now decorate the walls with the
children's work, and do activities over several
days without having to clear and lock away
everything at the end of every session. It
also means the ECC now have full access
to the facilities the primary school can offer.
This includes use of the hall and the P.E
equipment, the library, the new STEM room
and our well-maintained school garden. This
move also benefits parents who have children
in both the ECC and the primary school as
they are both at the same location. This is
also beneficial for the children themselves, as
they will be more familiar with the school
and staff when the time comes for their
transition in to P1.
Boxing Day Dippers
Despite various attempts to get more
participants There were only six brave souls
who stepped up to the challenge! The Fleming
family included Moira Irene and brother
Jimmy and Moira’s son Tommy, daughter
Suzanne and son in law Ross. Between
them they raised the magnificent sum of
£865 for Stewarton Woodlands Action
Trust. A special thanks for the generosity of
friends and family as well as from members
of Stewarton Bowling Club. Our next Dip
later in the year will raise funds for Ayrshire
Cancer Support in memory of our sister
Betty who sadly passed away recently. At her
funeral in January £724 was raised from the
collection for this same charity as she greatly
appreciated the help that she received from
the volunteer drivers.
