colors and textures as well as the depth of
the materials will become newly apparent to
you and a greater appreciation will grow as
time goes by. There is also added strength

Unlike other materials such as wood,
natural stone and cement, porcelain outdoor
pavers are not porous and therefore
do not absorb. They are frostproof and
weatherproof. They do not stain or crack
and do not require surface treatments or
special maintenance for cleaning. If you
choose a light color, they have a high solar
reflectance index. In other words, the
material does not absorb much heat and
therefore does not get too hot to walk on.
They can be installed directly on sand or
gravel, they can easily be repositioned
allowing maximum creativity, and yes they
can even be installed on the beach!
They can be placed directly onto grass,
removed and positioned elsewhere, allowing

the classic method
can withstand the test
of time. It is the ideal
flooring that withstands
any stress, even in high
traffic and urban areas.

The 20 mm thick pavers lend themselves
well for raised installation thanks to the
use of fixed or adjustable feet that create
an technical compartment under the
treadable surface.
These tiles are made by a fusion of sands,
clays and feldspar, and are then pressed
at 400 kg/cm2 and fired at 1200 degrees
Celsius to become a material with incompa-
rable strength.
These outdoor pavers are made with the
newest technology. They do not change col-
or or size and do not deteriorate over time.
They also have a high tolerance for
weight and traffic. Most of these outdoor
large format pavers are 3/4” thick.
In addition to these thick pavers, there
are matching indoor tiles that can be
purchased if you would like to create a
natural transition between your indoor
and outdoor space. There is beauty in the
continuity of combining the exterior and the
indoor environment. It combines aesthetics
and versatility.
No matter the shape or color of your
outdoor space, there is a paver for you.
Outdoor kitchens are a staple in today’s
homes, and it is nice to not have to worry
about stains and cracks when entertaining
your family and friends.
So what are you waiting for? Go out and
get yourself a new patio. The best thing of
all is that you can do it yourself!
Have fun and happy spring!

Satterfield, garden center manager at Canete Landscape in Wayne, do best in morning

your property is essential, as some flourish
with more sunlight and some with more
shade, while some just need more room.
Satterfield cited hydrangeas as a caution-
ary tale. “Hydrangeas really do best in
morning sun and afternoon shade, so be
mindful of that,” she said. “It will still grow
in afternoon sun but will require more
watering. Afternoon sun is the strongest
sun of the day — shade plants would not be
ideal in that scenario.
Boxwood shrubs, she added, can grow
in sun or shade, but some might grow to
4-6 feet, while others may grow to 8-10
feet tall. “As a result,” Satterfield said, “you
don’t want to put too many in one area.”
Experts at your local nurseries and gar-
den centers can help customers organize
their gardens by looking at a photo of their
property. Some may even send a designer
to the home for larger, more complicated
projects.
WHAT’S ‘APP’-ENING?
More than ever before, gardeners have
information right at their fingertips via
gardening apps on their smartphones and
tablets. The following apps are available on
iOS and Android:
n Garden Answers: Instantly identifies
over 20,000 plants and provides accurate,
detailed information about them. Just snap
a picture, tap submit and instantly receive
the identity of the plant and information
about it from garden and horticultural
experts. The app also contains answers to

tions, including plant diseases and insect
infestation.
n Garden Tags: Get plant identifica-
tion, planting inspiration, growing advice
and plant care instructions all in one app.
Garden Tags lets you log and manage
every plant in your garden collection so
you can track what the plant is, how it looks
over the seasons and how to care for it.
Plus, search a growing encyclopedia of

SmartPlant app help you identify plants but
also provides a “Digital Care Calendar” to
reveal everything your garden — and the
plants within it — need. You can personalize
the app by adding the specific plants you
have in your garden and the app will notify
you of their requirements.
