When questions arise regarding the status of community supervision in Georgia , DCS conducts research and statistical analyses to guide business decisions and ensure resources are devoted to areas most closely linked to successful outcomes .

DCS ’ s Strategic Plan details the goals , measurable objectives , and strategic initiatives for improving the agency ' s overall performance . Updated annually , the plan reflects a collaboration of DCS , criminal justice partners , and other community stakeholders .

WELCOME TO THE RESEARCH AND DATA SERVICES DIVISION
The Research & Data Services Division was created in August 2021 . The Division is led by Dr . Maria Stephenson and is comprised of 1 Senior Research Analyst ( Dr . Clarissa Dias ), 1 Data Analyst ( Karen Bowens ), and 1 Grant-Funded Position ( Brooke Gentry ).
Being a part of the Research & Data Services Division provides an abundance of fulfillment because we have the pleasure of collaborating with all Divisions of the agency , as well as with stakeholders , to support the agency ’ s mission .
The Research & Data Services Division focuses on increasing data transparency , providing accurate data about Georgia ’ s community supervision population , conducting research to enhance community supervision , managing DCS policies to accurately reflect the agency ’ s operations , and managing state and federal grants .
DATA SERVICES
The Research & Data Services Division responds to nearly 400 data requests annually .
INTERACTIVE DASHBOARDS
In an effort to increase internal and external data transparency of Community Supervision in Georgia , the RDS has launched two interactive dashboards :
The Total Population Dashboard : Provides stakeholders with immediate access to annual population data .
The Executive Dashboard : Focuses on 9 KPI ' s that drive the agency ’ s strategic plan and mission .
RESEARCH
To expand knowledge about Georgia ’ s adult felony community supervision population and to identify areas for supervision enhancements , the Research & Data Services Division conducts internal research and collaborates with external research partners .
Currently , we are collaborating with external research partners on five ( 5 ) research projects .
The relationships we build with external research partners strengthen the relationships we have with stakeholders .
