At PPS where our focus is exclusively on graduate professionals , we know that a core skill for any such professional is an extremely good understanding of mathematics .
And , as the Hungarian- American mathematician Paul Halmos said , “ the only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics ”.
At PPS we believed we had to find a way where students could learn mathematics by doing mathematics .
So , the Cultivating Tomorrow ’ s Professionals ( CTP ) programme saw the light in July 2020 . The deliberate intention of this transformational initiative is to be a catalyst of change in our communities , focusing particularly on mathematics education at high schools serving previously disadvantaged communities and learners .
Grade 11 and 12 learners from eight schools ( six in Johannesburg and two in Cape Town ), visit PPS offices once a month on a Saturday where the CTP team – with the support of PPS at large – come together and immerse ourselves in a day of exploration , knowledge , growth , education – and of course – some fun .
During this time , PPS expert maths tutors come and teach according to their school syllabus to ensure the best outcomes for matric exams . The learners are also exposed to everything they need to know about the respective professions they might consider as well as what “ the corporate world ” is all about .
In short , through the generosity of our staff , we not only help open learners ’ eyes as to what the future could offer them but also assist in giving them the necessary skills and knowledge to do so .
If you feel as strongly about the future of our youth as we do and if you would like to support this initiative , please contact Nomvuyo Gasa at
