Mental health and professional support :
BALANCED LIFE
Mental health and professional support :
A winning combo
By Elvira Wood , PPS Positioning Manager
Many people set ambitious resolutions around health , fitness and work-life balance every January . Whether committing to a healthier lifestyle , tackling fitness goals or striving to improve personal and professional life balance , the energy and optimism at the beginning of the year can be powerful . But now , as March rolls around , many resolutions faded weeks ago , overtaken by the demands of daily life , work pressures and other commitments . What is often forgotten in this rush is the importance of mental health – a vital component that often gets sidelined in the pursuit of physical and financial goals .
IS IT TOO LATE TO START NEW GOALS ?
It is never too late to reassess your goals . Whether you are finding it hard to keep up with your New Year ’ s resolutions or feeling that your life has become a whirlwind of obligations , it is important to remember that goals are not fixed . They evolve as life changes . The beginning of the year might not be the only time to focus on your health and well-being – March , or any other time of the year , can be an opportunity to reevaluate and reset .
As someone who has competed at an elite level in sports for many years and now works in the corporate world as a graduate professional , I understand the demands and pressures of balancing career aspirations , family responsibilities and personal life . I have seen firsthand how important it is to continually reassess my own goals , both in my sporting endeavours and in the corporate environment . For one , I no longer compete in “ senior ” events but as a veteran athlete I still compete internationally . To keep up with the demands of this level , I have had to adjust my training and expectations to fit the changes in my life . The pressures of work , having a family and maintaining my competitive edge have made it clear that re-evaluation is a necessary process – not just for performance but for mental and emotional well-being . It is about finding a balance , recalibrating when needed and understanding that flexibility is key to sustaining long-term success in all areas of life .
WHY RE-EVALUATION IS KEY
Re-evaluating your goals is not just about checking in on your physical health . It is about assessing your overall well-being – mental , emotional and physical . As a graduate professional balancing a demanding career , it is easy to let stress take over . But true success comes from achieving balance and maintaining strong mental health .
