The last few years showed us that human beings are mostly social beings and people need some form or community engagement . The COVID-19 pandemic made us realise that when people are disconnected from each other they can struggle with mental health , anxiety , depression , lack of purpose and loneliness . Therefore , it is important to create and maintain a positive work environment that promotes collective well-being , especially during these challenging times .
These five steps simplify the actions that can contribute to the collective well-being at work . These can also be adapted to ensure one ’ s positive personal well-being .
Step 1 – Connect : Connecting with others can help us feel close to people and valued for who we are . It can also help reduce stress and enhance our sense of well-being .
Step 2 – Get active : Many people find that physical activity helps them maintain positive mental health . Exercise releases endorphins , which can improve mood and reduce stress .
Step 3 – Take notice : Be deliberate about pausing throughout the day to take notice of your surroundings . Live in the present moment . Mindfulness practices can help reduce stress and promote well-being .
Step 4 – Keep learning : What you learn does not need to be workrelated . It could be a hobby , sport or even a language . Learning new things can help keep our minds active and engaged , and can contribute to our overall sense of well-being .
Step 5 – Give to others : Random acts of kindness can create a sense of positivity and improve your mental well-being . It could be a few minutes of your time and does not need to be something big or small . Giving to others can also create a sense of community and connectedness .
Balancing professional and personal well-being is key . Developing connections , supporting one another and maintaining a balance between personal and professional commitments , can allow one to enjoy the diverse communities we belong to in our rainbow community . Collective well-being is the key to a healthy , thriving and successful community .
