A Dream

Have you ever had a dream that was so close, yet so far away? A dream where you had almost everything to make it happen except the money? A dream to go to college? This was Diane’s dream.

Diane Marsh was born on April 28, 1969. She grew up in rural Pennsylvania near the Pocono Mountains with her mom, dad, brother and sister. Her mom worked as an office assistant in a dress factory and her dad worked in quality control. Neither one of her parents had a college degree, but they made enough money to support their family. Both of Diane’s parents were determined for all three of their kids to go to college, they believed in a good education. Although Diane’s family had limited money her father loved to fix things, so his kids may have never had the newest bikes, but they had working bikes.

Diane went to a Catholic school at her church. The school went from kindergarten to 8th grade. She also went to a Catholic high school. Her high school focused on helping students prepare for college. In her junior

year of High School Diane had to meet with her counselor to discuss what college she wanted to go to. She faced a major problem, her parents could not pay for her college. Her counselor and her parents gave her many tips on how to pay for college and she was glad that she listened to them. Diane knew that she would eventually have to find a way to pay for college all on her own, but her first priority was applying. Diane got into Leigh University with an academic scholarship. Diane was also allowed to apply for financial aid, because of the money her parents made. Sadly, her academic scholarship and financial aid would not cover the $60,000 she had to pay for her four year degree.
