TENNIS Senior Girls VI
1st VI = P6 / W3 / D0 / L3 2nd VI = P2 / W1 / D0 / L1
A mixed season , often playing in quite challenging conditions and so testing the girls ’ control of the ball . Despite the weather , some excellent tennis has been played throughout the season . We have had very pleasing numbers on a Tuesday after school , practising with great positivity and enthusiasm .
After losing to South Hunsley in the first round of the Aberdare Cup , back in the Lent Term , the first match of the Summer Term was still rather a shock to the system , with both the 1st and 2nd VI losing 1-8 to Ampleforth . With these losses behind us , Pocklington

Various reasons have meant that tennis has been disrupted somewhat this year , depriving us of seeing a full-strength team in full flow . Top pair Tom Dyson and Mohamed Gamal have only played together competitively on two occasions . On
2nd VI then went on to beat Worksop 6-3 in their next and final fixture . Of the next four matches played , the 1st VI beat the Grammar School at Leeds ( GSAL ), Worksop , and Queen Margaret ’ s , only conceding 1 rubber out of 21 . An excellent track record which I hope they can build on during their time at the Eton tournament ( 2nd – 5th July ). Good luck , ladies !
Thanks must go to Jessica McDowell , who has not only been a talented and committed player over the past few seasons , but as captain this year , has been a huge support to me and should be congratulated on her excellent communication and organisational skills . Jessica now hands the baton over to Alex Brown , who will be our captain for the 2023 season . Congratulations , Alex !

This season we say goodbye to some key players , namely Jessica Mc Dowell ( captain ), Izzy Scanlon , Amy Jordan , Eleanor Broadbent and Georgie Taylor . We wish you well , girls , and hope to see you on court in the future .
