LOCKDOWN LEARNING
JANUARY 2021 – EASTER 2021
Whilst everyone – teachers and pupils alike – rose admirably to the new challenge of online learning during our first period of lockdown in 2020 , we all fervently hoped that our return to school in September 2021 would represent the return to some form of normality and a permanent break from the Zoom screens …
The government ’ s announcement at 8pm on January 4th 2021 changed all our plans , however , as we embarked on our second major period of remote education .
Not to be daunted by the darker days and less hospitable weather of winter , pupils and teachers threw themselves into a full weekly timetable of Zoom lessons , directed tasks , daily tutor checks , assemblies , and sporting and co-curricular challenges . Levels of pupil engagement were outstanding and teachers were able to refine remote teaching skills acquired during the first
lockdown as well as broadening their repertoire of online tools .
As in June 2020 , the return to school in March 2021 was heartily welcomed throughout the school community . Nonetheless , our pupils ’ impressive skills of resilience and adaptability as well as their ability to direct and take responsibility for their learning stand out as significant positives from this period which we can take and build upon as a permanent legacy from lockdown learning .
