SPORT // GIRLS ’ TENNIS
U14 VI
The U14 girls have had a short but enjoyable tennis season this year . We have welcomed new players , both to the school and to tennis sessions . The scores of their games do not reflect their determination and ability on court . Hymers was the first match of the season , where we had very close sets but , unfortunately , lost 2-7 . The girls never gave up and worked harder for each games lesson and training session . Their commitment has been outstanding , and this is a credit to them as individuals .
Some of the U14s have also ‘ played up ’ for the U15s and they should be very proud of this opportunity . They have played doubles with people they had
never played with before ( or in some cases , didn ’ t know before the tennis season ), and have taken everything in their stride . Well done to everyone involved in games session , training , and matches !

U13 VI
This term , the U13 girls have been very committed and have enjoyed every session of tennis . Their efforts have not gone unnoticed and this is shown through their determination and results .
There have been multiple new players this season , who have got involved and had a go at their first fixtures – which has been fantastic to see . The girls had their first fixture against Worksop and didn ’ t know what to expect , however , managed a 3-3 draw : a promising start to the season .
Hymers was the next match , which we knew was going to be hard . Bearing this in mind , they gained a respectable 6-3 win ( a highlight of the season !). After that , they won their next game 6-3 against Scarborough College , but we then had two very hard games against St Peter ’ s ( lost 3-6 ) and Bradford Grammar ( lost 4-5 ). We took these as a learning curve and worked on our serves and ability to read the game . This worked to our advantage as we played Hymers in our last match of the season .
Here , we finished on the best note possible , with a 6-0 win ! An amazing end to an enjoyable season – well done to everyone who participated in games sessions , training and matches !

U12 VI
Whilst this tennis season has been sadly cut short , we have had the luxury of playing some excellent fixtures against local schools in the last weeks of school . The girls ’ team have enjoyed several successes against Hymers and Bradford Grammar School . They have played with different partners and learned to be flexible and adapt to each other ’ s game .
The boys ’ team have contained a real breadth of talent . They have worked hard at training on their positional play in doubles and attacking volleys at the net , and it is certainly paying off .
We have also embraced some mixed tennis this term against St Olave ’ s and Hymers . This has not only strengthened our tennis but allowed us to play different styles and tactics . The highlight of the season was seeing sixteen students out on court , playing mixed tennis against Hymers in the last match . We have a huge mixture of ability in our squad , but each with their own individual goals , as well as a collective team goal of improvement and enjoyment .
It has been wonderful getting to know such an enthusiastic squad , who strive to succeed and have embraced all that is on offer . Players have been committed to turning up to Monday practice , be it just to play tennis , learn tennis and even compete in the team .
We have had some wonderful team and individual performances throughout , and it has been a great building year . I look forward to seeing the squad in action next year .
