SPORT// ROUNDERS / CROSS COUNTRY U14 Despite the uncompromising British summer, the U14 rounders squad have had a fantastic season. With three fixtures cancelled we have played just five matches, and remain unbeaten to date. Anna Wraith has captained the side brilliantly leading from the front ably with the highest number of rounders this season (11.5) as well as serving as a vital deep fielder. Anna has shared the ‘girl of the game’ accolades with Maddie Parkinson, who scored a total U13 P6 / W3 / D0 / L3 / CANCELLED 2 The girls have had a great season and played some superb rounders. Jess Dyson gave a master class in batting skills whenever she played (when she wasn’t playing tennis!) and was able to place the ball in gaps in the field enabling her to score time and time again. U12 This term has been a term of learning and improving. We have had our solid 10 (which then became 11) players who have played most weeks and the improvement of 11 rounders thus far and has been a reliable and competent 1st post player. Other key batters include Lizzie Wake (also extremely capable fielder), Evie Parkinson, Lily Rose-Levine and Emma Forsyth. In the field, praise should go to Lily Rose-Levine and Emily Phillips who have forged a fantastic bowler/ backstop partnership. In addition, Ally Law has been ever-reliable at second post with Rosie Snelling a committed and versatile fielder. Thanks should also go to those members of the squad that, whilst not playing regularly, have been brilliant additions and have stepped up in order to contribute to the unbeaten record. These include: Natalie Owen, Keira Wright, Phoebe Anderson and Scarlett McMullen. The girls have been a pleasure to coach as always, and I look forward to hearing about their continued success in rounders next season. Player(s) of Season: Anna Wraith and Maddie Parkinson Most Improved: Emma Forsyth Lucy Grewer was superb in deep field and demonstrated such awareness of the game, again showing that she is a team player with real maturity and skill. Kitty Webber took a beautiful catch in deep field in one match and Hattie Hawkes has been superb on 1st post and has proven herself to be a great bowler too. Maisie Spruyt has had such vision and awareness at back stop and has really impressed in the field. Well done to all the girls who have played in matches this season; it has been a real pleasure to coach you! they have made from the first match to the last is impressive. They have taken advice on board and their fielding and batting have both got better as the term has progressed. it’s about what you take from it. A big well done, it’s not about the results, Player of Season: Maisie Spruyt Most Improved Played: Kitty Webber Player of the Season: Amy Colley and Ella Smith Most Improved Player: Islay Cunnliffe-Lister CROSS COUNTRY SUMMARY A total of 52 students took part in 6 different cross country events this year. The girls U13 team came 2nd with excellent runs from Scarlett Robinson and Niamh Clements and a strong run from Julian Brittenden in the U13 boys team. • Finally a special mention goes to Henry Rodmell who was selected to represent Humberside at the ESAA National Cross Country Championship competing against the best athletes from each of the 46 regional finals in England.
