GIRLS’ HOCKEY
1st XI
P14 / W8 / D2 / L4
Another wonderful season where every member of the squad
can feel incredibly proud of their efforts, especially as we
have never been at full strength due to either injury or illness
through the season.
If we could take away the early season performance at RGS
Newcastle, the losses to Yarm and Barnard Castle by a
single goal respectively, it would have been an outstanding
season. The team has functioned well in all areas of the pitch
and produced some of the most attractive hockey from a
Pocklington team for many years.
There are many highlights to the season: the leadership of
India Esa, the continued emergence of young players coming
into the team making significant contributions and how the
senior girls have upheld the high values of truth, courage and
trust that has underpinned how this group has functioned
through the season.

2nd XI
The 2nd team girls had a very successful season, winning 7 out
of 11 matches, drawing 2 and losing 2.
The season started with a 2-0 loss against Ampleforth –
however, this didn’t shake the confidence of the team and the
girls continued to work hard, continuously improving their
stick skills and teamwork throughout the season.
Highlights included a hard fought draw against St. Peters in
the final week, and a 4-4 draw against Yarm earlier in the
season. These were certainly some of the toughest matches,
and the girl’s grit really showed through – some excellent
hockey along with a refusal to give up resulted in some lovely
play throughout the season, and the girls should be proud of
all they have achieved.
Special mentions go to Bea Nicholson for stepping up as goalie,
providing a solid defence throughout the season. For her
contribution to the team, Bea was awarded, ‘Most Improved
Player.’ In addition, Taggy Medforth displayed excellent stick
skills throughout the season and scored some fantastic goals.

THE POCKLINGTONIAN
Her determination never waned which resulted in her being
awarded ‘Player of the Season!’
Well played to everyone involved in the team this year and
good luck for the 2020 season!
Liv Dytham
(Captain)
Liv Dytham played in the 2nd XI for three years. Throughout this
time she displayed many qualities, including fitness, stick skills and
determination, that resulted in her becoming a vital and key part of
the team. As well as this, her commitment to the squad was excellent.
Consequently, Liv was presented with 2nd XI colours at the end of the
2018 season. Congratulations, Liv! We will miss you next year.

an excellent level of sportsmanship. I
have really enjoyed working with the
girls this season.
Laura Ingham has been a superb captain,
playing very well at the back and ably
supported by Hattie Thompson, Trinity
Wright and newcomer Clara Salditt.
Katie Williams and Freya Stewart are to
be commended on their good attacking
play and a number of goals between them.
Katie Phelps and Tilly Rumgay also
deserve a mention for their excellent
efforts in all the fixtures. I hope the
girls will feel inspired to attend training
sessions next year following such a
successful season.
