SCHOOL NEWS// FOPS FRIENDS OF POCKLINGTON SCHOOL FOPS has had a splendid year. Our first donation was to the Boarders… fireworks! These were a great success, as ever, and I think it’s safe to say the evening went with a bang! Our next ‘engagement’ was the Christmas Ball, held at the Principal Hotel, York. Our wonderful parents turned out in force, again. We had a festive time with lots of laughter and dancing. The opportunity to pay for requests for songs was eagerly seized upon by many and the dancefloor heaved all night! We look forward to seeing you all again, on Saturday 8th December 2018! Following our AGM, Tash Birch stepped down as Chair, as her three years’ service was up. We are all very grateful to Tash for her contribution and leadership. The Committee continues to be a strong team, but we’d love more parents to join us; you don’t have to come to meetings “ 16 - your support at events would be invaluable. This year we’ve supported Open Days and Sports Day and have even been at the Driffield Show! We also had the fantastic opportunity to support the launch of the Pocklington School Foundation Careers and Business Network. Recent donations have been to the Gardening Club, Computing, the Lectern Society and Strength and Conditioning. Each of these are extra- curricular activities and it is a joy to see our students making the very most of their time at Pocklington. This year, we had to postpone Party@ Pock, but have already begun planning for SpinneyFest 2019!! We can’t wait to raise more funds to enhance the children’s time at Pocklington; there will be live acts, food stalls and fireworks… such fun! We’re planning coffee mornings, with copious home-made cakes and tea, as an opportunity to meet more parents and guardians. We will also be found at New Parents’ events and other school community activities. We look forward to meeting you! Annie Harrison Since the Christmas Ball 2016 we have donated over £5000 to projects within the school” THE POCKLINGTONIAN
