USES
The wood is tough, strong, and light in
weight, but has minimal resistance to decay.
The are used for basket making.
Charcoal made from the wood was important
for gunpowder manufacture. The bark tannin
was used in the past for tanning leather.
MEDICINAL USE
Willow bark extract called salicin has been used for
thousands of years as an anti-inflammatory,
antipyretic, and analgesic
A small number of clinical studies have been
conducted that support the use of willow bark
extracts in chronic lower back and joint pain and
osteoarthritis. Willow bark extracts also are widely
used in sports performance and weight loss products
presumably because of anti-inflammatory and
analgesic activities, although no human studies have
been published that specifically and directly
document beneficial effects.
Recipe:
Bark Tea: Add 1-2 teaspoons of white willow bark to 6
ounces of water. Let it boil for 5-10 minutes, let it steep
for 20 to 30 minutes
