Rubus ulmifolius English: elmleaf blackberry Spanish: zarza, zarzamora Estonian: jalakalehine murakas Leaves Leaves are palmately compound with 3 or 5 leaflets, the leaflets green on the upper surface but white on the underside because of a dense layer of woolly hairs. Rubus ulmifolius is a brambly shrub sometimes as much as 5 meters (almost 17 feet) tall, sometimes with spines but not always. It is native to Europe and North Africa. Flowers Flowers are usually pink, sometimes white. They have 5 petals, 10-15 mm long. Sepals are grey or whitish. They grow in inflorescences. Fruit The fruit is edible. It is red at the beginning and it becomes black.
