Adopt a Shelter Dog Month
The month of October celebrates National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month ! Created by the American Humane Society , Adopt a Shelter Dog month has been celebrated since 1981 and encourages people to adopt dogs from local shelters or rescue groups .
Here are some ways you can celebrate this month : Adopt a Dog- adopting a homeless dog from Arlington Animal Services is a great way to save a life , gain a new best friend , and give them their chance at a furever home . Arlington Animal Services is celebrating Adopt a Shelter Dog Month with $ 10 dog adoption fees . As always , all adoptions from AAS include , pet vaccinations , spay / neuter , heartworm testing , a microchip and more . Help spread the word- Share adoptable pets ' profiles on social media to raise awareness of shelter pets in need . By sharing , you also help educate others about the over pet population struggles and the importance of adopting a shelter pet . Foster- Arlington Animal Services is working to grow our foster program . If you are unable to adopt , but could temporarily house a dog or cat in need , please consider joining our team . Click here to learn more about our volunteer and foster programs . Donate- whether its old blankets , towels pet toys or monetary donations , we appreciate every single donation given . These donations provide our team with additional ways to go above and beyond for the homeless pets while they are in our care .
