THE BEAUTY ABOUT TREE PLANTING IN ROTARACT. D uring my childhood, I didn’t have the privilege of doing any gardening like my peers. Well; some would call this luck but not me. Thankfully though, going through primary and secondary school taught me a thing or two about the entire process. One such experience included planting and looking after my Banana Plant (Matooke) at Gayaza High School under the yearly HSC project; code named *_”the Gatooke project.”_* We were told to each dig holes 2ft deep, plant our bananas and leave our name tags alongside our plants. _*The thought of having a withered plant majestically adorning your name was mortifying! I am not to mention how tedious the entire process was. However, the exhilarating feeling of having learnt something new tramps all. It took about 11-12months to get the first harvest and when it came, it was worth the wait. My most recent experience was at the Mother Club’s Tree Planting Project at Butabika Hospital. The thrill of planting some trees had me on an _all time high_ I couldn’t wait to start. I planted close to 20 trees with ease (not to brag) and it felt amazing. There is an unexplainable beauty that comes from a lash green environment. The scenery is so surreal. The first time I heard about Rotary’s Mission Green had me totally impressed. Not that Green is my favourite colour, far from it! How should I put it? Let’s see... Green has a knack of adding beauty to the environment. When I see green, I think life, I think freshness, I think sustainability and conservation. Therefore, when I learnt about the Rotaract Earth Initiative (REI) that started in April 2015 whose main objective included tackling climate change, food security and primary health care with an initiative of planting close to 10 million trees, had me already signed up and actively participating in the project. My love for trees mainly stems from the beauty they bring to the environment, it’s such a serene scene. For other’s It may be the shade and the fruits that come with it. Whatever the case, planting trees is vital for environmental conservation and ecological balance. After attending the Rotaract Earth Initiative (REI) caravans that have been quite massive in all regions and this being my first REI _Bushenyi Edition, I believe everyone out there should not miss the opportunity to participate in the Rotaract Earth Initiative 2019. Let’s connect while saving the Environment. #REI19 The Bushenyi Edition in Kalisz Forest Reserve.
