EDGY ELEGANCE BY COUNTESS K
xpert tailoring is the order of the day with Countess K. Her Spring/Summer 2012 showed a finesse of fit and tactful tailoring that is designed to complement every curve on a woman’s body, but with an edgy elegance that somehow says “I am strong”. Whilst there wasn’t a pair of pants in sight with the exception of romper or two, with dresses this fierce ,we kind of don’t mind. The collection started off with flared sleeves and fitted bottoms on the designer’s dresses, featuring a chic use of printed and solid fabrics in complimentary colours to create the illusion of separates. Fitting hip silhouettes with flared bottoms in floor-length dresses created an ultra feminine silhouette, whilst drapey tops and skirts gave the collection an edginess that prevented it from being too girly. Muted colours created a maturity for the beginning of the collection, which then moved into the brights and lights more reminiscent of summer. Feminine bows at the waist, key-hole cut-outs at the bust and hemlines at the knee showed off the feminine form with just the right amount of sexappeal, and the workmanship and tailoring on this collection were impeccable. We’re kind of in love with Countess K and want to see more!?

ETHNIC COOL & ECO-CHIC BY ZUVVA
obody does eco-chic and ethnic cool like Joyce Chimanye, and she certainly reminded us of that at her show at Zimbabwe Fashion Week 2012. Her latest collection for label Zuvva kicked off with a striking juxtaposition of clean, fresh white and vibrant African prints, including pure white stretch maxi skirts and paired with fitted tops in ethno fabrics. This was followed up by the summer casual wear that Joyce does so well, with relaxed shirt dresses, tunics and maxi dresses in easy-breezy natural cotton in shades of white and yellow. Braided belts accessorised the looks and gave us a look into this season of Zuvva’s eco designs and a taste of what we’ll be wearing for spring. Her men’s wear offerings shared the same easy cool with slim-fitted cotton pants, African-print shirts and loosely tailored cotton button-ups. Perfect for lazy summer days and weekends away, I’m packing casual wear from Zuvva for my next getaway. The collection then moved into the chic African dresses and evening gowns we’ve come to expect from Zuvva, including covetable combinations of tafetta and ethnic prints adorned with jewel trims and glimmering gems. The elegance of her long, flowing evening gowns was complimented by Lurex fabrics and fierce styling, but pleasantly contrasted by some girlier styles. Layered A-line dresses are the look for pretty summer formal by Zuvva, with edgier styles featuring rock starlet tulle. Joyce jets off to Botswana Fashion Week after the Zimbabwe edition and her collection is sure to be just as well received.?
