EASY BREEZY MEN’S STYLES BY SHALDON KOPMAN
haldon Kopman jetted in from South Africa to showcase at the third edition of Zimbabwe Fashion Week, and showed well-tailored men’s wear with impeccable workmanship. The collection featured a colour palette of muted beige and khaki with warmer tones of red, cherry and dusty rouge. Casual shorts that fell to the knee and midlength pant styles with rolled up cuffs were paired with button-up shirts featuring open necklines and frayed edges. Casual jackets were paired with tailored shorts and a new wrap-over style of jacket was introduced mid-way through the show. Getting a little smarter, Shaldon showed fulllength pants with buttoned-to-the-neck shirts and waistcoats worn over, but kept it casual with open sandals and bare feet. The collection closed with skinny-legged suits in dusty brights, paired with cotton tees; which kind of sums up the look of summer according to Shaldon Kopman: deceptively casual but unmistakably cool. Long summer days and cool summer nights will have an easy-breezy feel about them if this is the look for spring.?

INTRODUCTION
or those of you who missed it, Harare played host to the Zimbabwe Fashion Week, which saw international designers making a bee-line to the country. In its 3rd year running, it was held over 3 days from the 30th of August to the 1st of September 2012 at the VW Showroom in Harare. Zimbabwe Fashion Week was founded by Priscilla Chigariro in October 2009. Its main purpose is to create a platform for Zimbabwean and International Designers to showcase their creations as well as to help rekindle what was once a thriving textile and fashion industry. Our Fashion Review, is focusing on the happenings for the two days that we attended. Watch this space, for 2012’s & 2013’s fashion parades.

ere’s the thing about Intisaar – she’s a real sweetie ; but there’s nothing sweet about her designs as shown at Zimbabwe Fashion Week 2012, because they’re all about a new kind of funky, inyour-face ethno-cool. And we totally dig it. Midriff-bearing and leg-showing summer styles hit the runway at the IntisaarM show, with tribal print mini-skirts and boldcoloured crop tops – the kind of fashion that says “Hello Summer, I’ve been waiting for you!” Ethnic print short-sleeved jacket suits with short, fitted skirts were placed after casual sleeveless vest jackets and draped tops. The clever use of print fabrics extended to the intricate trims and details on her funky frocks, perfectly styled and coordinated with Afro-chic accessories. This level of funky cool was nonetheless beautifully tailored with sassy pocketed shorts and fitted shirts, and exudes a kind of intangible cool. There’s no hiding when wearing designs by Intisaar Mukadam, but quite frankly why would you want to at all??
