WORRIED FATHER
t was 13 years ago when God blessed my wife and I with a bouncing baby girl. From the day my little girl was born, I made a promise to myself that I would give her all she might need and I would protect her from any harm. My little girl is now doing her high school e ducation and she is growing so fast. She now has a very big body and has also started menstruating. We had a braai at my house recently and when some of my friends saw my daughter, they thought she was my wife’s little sister. I’m now getting worried that because of her big body, she will start experimenting with boys at a tender age and she will get pregnant in her teens. My wife thinks I’m paranoid and I’m getting agitated for nothing. How best can I protect my daughter? Moses, Kwekwe VaChihera’s answer Your daughter is already in her teens and this is the best time to educate her about her body and sexuality. It might be a very difficult subject to discuss but you can start by educating her on how important it is for her to maintain the proper friends who have good morals and also to abstain from sex and drugs. She should learn to value herself and there is need for her to have an open relationship with you where she can feel free to discuss anything. Also, a girl child needs to be smothered with a lot of love especially from the father as she learns more about the opposite sex from the dad. When you train a child of what to do or expect in life whilst they are young, they will never deviate from those principles when they are older. Also trust your daughter and do not think of the worst. TP
