“I have lived with my wife for the past fifteen years. ‘She’ does everything a caring and devoted woman does for her husband and she is very jealous,” said the seemingly shy Moyo during an interview with The Parade at his home. He said the snake was a gift from his uncle who lived in South Africa who told him that it could make him very rich. “I used to wake up in the morning and find huge sums of money under my pillow, after having dreamt of the snake bringing in money. After about four years, l started having difficulties waking up in the morning as my groin was painful,” he said. Moyo said he consulted sangomas and prophets who advised him that he was being sexually molested by the snake, but he did not believe it. He was also told that the more he became rich, the more the snake would also become bigger. The truth only dawned on him in the fifth year when he clinched a lucrative business deal. He discovered an anaconda like snake lying beside him in his bedroom. “I could not believe what I saw on this day. The snake was huge and had many colours. It hissed at me in a seemingly friendly manner and I was dumbfounded. It then started advancing towards me and I fainted. From then on, we just continued living like that as there was nothing which I could do. You see my brother, life in Zimbabwe is tough and there is nowhere I can get money except from this snake. For me it is very normal and I respect ‘her’. I used to have girlfriends and children but all of them just mysteriously fell sick and died,” he said. One of his girl friends who came to visit was bitten by the same snake and died after six months. That is when he realized that “his wife hated competition from other women”. Moyo has grown so fond of his ‘wife ‘that he buys ‘her’ gifts and special food. She loves to eat special food and drinks goat blood, as evidenced by loads of goat skins in his garage. The snake also accompanies him whenever he drives February 2013

Elliott Siamonga any people have a deep rooted hatred of snakes. In the Bible, a snake is a symbol of deception associated with Lucifer, “The Devil”. Despite all this, The Parade caught up with a 55-year old Bulawayo man who stays in the leafy suburb of Burnside, who has shared the same bed with this slithery reptile for the past 15 years. The “brave” man, Obvious Moyo, has a beautiful double storey house and several posh cars in his garage. At the back of his house is a well manicured lawn with evergreen trees and flowers where his ‘wife’ relaxes during the day before they retire to bed during the night. His cosy dining room walls are plastered with all different kinds of snake pictures, big and small. There was no one else in the house except himself and his ‘Wife,’ the snake which could be heard hissing in his bedroom.
