As you are all aware, traffic related deaths are a major challenge in Zimbabwe and the rest of the world and any efforts put towards saving human lives is worth the effort. Last year Zimbabwe recorded 180 deaths during the Christmas and New Year Holidays, surpassing the previous year’s figures and it is a major concern for all of us. Roads are a public resource that all motorists use and it is the responsibility of every user to share it while observing traffic rules with respect and courtesy to all other users. While driving is merely guided by traffic rules, it is very important to realise that these rules are a mere guideline and The Parade - Zimbabwe’s Most Read Lifestyle Magazine w e must not risk being involved in an accident because we feel that we are correct in terms of the rules. It is for this reason that drivers are encouraged to undergo defensive driving courses which encourage responsible driving thereby reducing driving risks by anticipating situations that lead to well informed driving decisions. Defensive driving courses are conducted by Traffic Safety Council, a government institution with branches throughout the country.
