The Stibbards Award
For sports achievement in the face of adversity
We’ve teamed up with Southend based funeral directors S. Stibbards & Sons Ltd to present an award to a deserving junior sportsperson. Martin Stibbards told us ‘Keeping our community fit and healthy is important and we want to recognise that by awarding £100 to a local youngster who is involved in sporting activity despite physical, mental or social adversity.’ This issue, the Stibbards award has been awarded to ‘Billy Gibbons’. Mum Jo says: ‘We are delighted that Stibbards has awarded Billy this prize as he is a keen sportsman’. Billy aged 11 years, who has cerebral palsy, visual and hearing impairments caused by extreme premature birth, is still happy to get on any pitch just for the training. Mum Jo tells us that even though his disabilities mean he doesn’t play for many teams, he still absolutely loves sport and enjoys joining in.
Billy says that he will spend his prize money on a new top-of-the -range cricket bat!
If you know of a young sport player, under 18 who you feel is deserving of this award, nominate them at: www.thepackmagazine.co.uk/competitions.php
