Athletics Award
Independent Insurance consultants Merenda & Company, based in Shoeburyness, are sponsoring this edition’s Athletics Award in partnership with The PACK. Merenda who are keen to encourage local running clubs and would like to award ‘£50’ to Southend parkrun. This club launched in October 2012 as they are ‘passionate for all the local community, male or female, young or old, to come together at Gunners Park in Shoebury on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful park and get physically active into the bargain’. They host weekly, free, sociable and friendly 5km runs locally and Event Director, Alex
Thornton told us that “Southend parkrun is delighted to be recognised with this award. We are run entirely by local volunteers and in the last six months have started to build up a community of like minded people, with the event regularly attracting around 100 participants per week”.
