Between 1863 and 1886 an American cartoonist, Thomas Nast, drew a series of drawings of Santa Claus for Harper’s Weekly magazine. In the drawings Santa is shown, in his present-day attire complete with white beard, in his workshop, driving his reindeer-pulled sleigh, and putting toys into stockings hung over a fireplace. In the 1930-40s Coca Cola ran a series of advertising campaigns where Santa was shown enjoying Coca Cola.
